After her service in the Air Force, Joan joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, further enhancing her expertise in law enforcement and public safety. Her tenure with the RCMP honed her abilities in risk assessment, emergency response, and regulatory compliance, which she has adeptly applied in her role at Bromley Living.

In 1988, Joan transitioned to a pivotal role in her career by joining the Department of Labor and Industries a Safety Inspector and Accidnet Investigator. This position marked her deepened commitment to occupational safety and health. Her responsibilities included conducting in-depth investigations into workplace incidents, advocating for safer work environments, and ensuring adherence to safety regulations.
